Isn't the Missouri River dangerous to float?
No, not if you are careful as with any other river. There are no rapids, or rocks. You just can't touch the bottom in most areas.
How fast does the river flow?
About 4 miles per hour in the middle.
What about barges?
There are very few barges on the Missouri River. If you see one, you have plenty of time to move to one side.
Where can you stop to rest?
There are small river towns with eating establishments. There are plenty of sand bars, dikes and gentle sloping river banks.
Do I need to make reservations?
Yes. Reservations are required. Please
contact us. A 50% deposit is required and shall be sent in within two weeks of specified date in order to secure reservation. Pay pal is available, credit cards or checks. No deposits will be returned, however if notified two weeks prior to scheduled date, dates of reservations may be moved. No cancellations.
What if it rains or there is flooding?
If rain is imminent more than 1-hour after launch location the date may be moved to another day. If the River is in rising flood stage and or has debris from rising water the float date will be moved to another date.
Are there age restrictions?
Yes. Children under 12 must be with parent or guardian.
How does the transportation work?
Go for a full or half day. Missouri River Excursions is located in Defiance, Missouri and we provide a comfortable shuttle to drop off and pick up. The shuttle leaves from Defiance (2886 South Hwy 94) approximately around 9:00 am and goes to Klondike Park (on Hwy 94 between Defiance and Augusta). The float is 8 miles to Weldon Springs Conservation Area. The float trip will take approximately 2.5 hours; include additional time for playing on sand bars, exploring, and fishing. Afternoon 1/2 day float trips may be available. The full day trip is from Washington MO. to Weldon Spring Conservation Area. This is a 23 mile float trip which takes approx 5 hours of floating; add extra time for other activities.
What should I bring?
Things to bring: Food, beverages, water, bug spray, sun screen, fishing poles, water bags, hats, cameras.
Can you bike the Katy Trail after an excursion?
After your river excursion, we can pick you up from the river and leave you with your bikes to continue on the Katy Trail.
